Lord Leitch served as Chair of FNZ Group from 2013 to 2024, during which time he provided invaluable leadership and guidance, helping to steer the organization through significant growth and transformation. His contributions to FNZ and the broader financial services industry were immense. With over five decades of experience in financial services and insurance, Lord Leitch played a key role in shaping the Group’s success, bringing both wisdom and vision to everything he did.
In addition to his role at FNZ, Lord Leitch held several prominent positions, including Chair of Bupa, Chairman of Intrinsic Financial Services, and Chair and Chief Executive of Zurich Financial Services UK, Ireland, South Africa, and Asia Pacific. He also served as Deputy Chair of Lloyds Banking Group plc, Chair of Scottish Widows plc, Deputy Chair of the Commonwealth Education Fund, and Chair of the Association of British Insurers. His leadership across these diverse roles showcased his deep expertise and influence within the industry.
Lord Leitch was also a passionate advocate for employee volunteering, workplace diversity, and numerous charitable causes. His influence extended far beyond the boardroom, touching the lives of many through his philanthropic efforts and unwavering support for organisations striving to create a better world. He founded the What Is More? Foundation and was a patron of charities such as the Stroke Association and Medical Aid Films Charity, reflecting his lifelong dedication to improving the lives of others. His commitment to making a positive difference was recognised with the Prince of Wales Ambassador award for charity work.
In 2004, he was the author of the Leitch Review of Skills, commissioned by the then Chancellor, Gordon Brown, to examine the UK’s optimal skills mix to maximize economic growth, productivity, and social justice, which continues to shape cross-party policy in the field of skills development in the UK. This contribution led to his appointment as a Life Peer and his service as a Member of the House of Lords - a testament to his character and determination.
