Since joining FNZ, Akash has navigated multiple career transitions, taken on new challenges, and discovered that some of the most rewarding opportunities emerge when you move beyond traditional role boundaries. In this edition of #InsideFNZ, he reflects on his journey, the lessons he's learned along the way, and why embracing uncertainty can be one of the most powerful career decisions you make.
From A&T to Engineering Manager, what has that journey been like?
Moving from A&T to delivery management and then into engineering leadership has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.
What I have enjoyed most is the opportunity to keep learning. Every transition brought a new perspective, new skills to develop, and new challenges to solve. Looking back, I have realised that waiting until you feel completely ready can sometimes hold you back. Many of the opportunities that helped me grow were the ones that initially felt unfamiliar.
Each step pushed me to think differently, expand my skill set, and build confidence through experience.
What opportunities at FNZ had the biggest impact on your development?
The biggest differentiator has been the opportunity to stretch beyond the boundaries of my original role.
Throughout my time at FNZ, I have been able to work with talented colleagues across teams, regions, and disciplines. Those experiences exposed me to different ways of thinking and gave me opportunities to contribute beyond my day-to-day responsibilities.
Equally important was the trust and support I received from leaders who encouraged me to explore new areas and take on bigger challenges.
What did you learn from transitioning into Engineering?
One of the most important lessons was that leadership looks very different from expertise.
Early in my career, success was often measured by what I could personally deliver. As I moved into leadership, I realized my role was shifting from solving problems myself to helping others succeed.
Leading engineering teams taught me the importance of listening, learning continuously, and creating an environment where people can do their best work.
I also learned that confidence isn't something you have before taking on a challenge. It's something you build by doing it.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career change or internal move?
Don't assume your current role defines your future career.
The skills you develop in one role often transfer more than you think. Stay curious, keep learning, and don't be afraid to explore opportunities that sit outside your immediate comfort zone.
The transition may feel uncertain at first, but that's often where the greatest learning happens.
What has been the most rewarding part of your journey so far?
Building and growing teams.
Technology is important, but people are what make the biggest difference. Seeing individuals develop their capabilities, take on new challenges, and achieve success is incredibly rewarding.
For me, some of the most fulfilling moments have come from watching teams collaborate effectively, overcome challenges together, and deliver outcomes that wouldn't have been possible individually.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
Outside work, I am passionate about fitness and staying active.
I also spend a lot of time following developments in AI and emerging technologies. It's a space that's evolving incredibly quickly and something I genuinely enjoy learning about.
Both interests share a common theme: continuous improvement. Whether it’s technology, leadership, or personal development, I am always looking for opportunities to learn and grow.
