Extraordinary Impact

Building Platforms and Building People

Over 19 years at FNZ, Dave Tucker has moved from front-line client work as a Junior Business Analyst to Head of People Development, Systems & Analytics. Whether developing propositions for major UK clients or launching an award-winning graduate scheme, he’s made a lasting impact.

We asked Dave what’s stood out in his career, and why he moved into the People Function after 15 years in delivery roles:

“I’ve never felt pigeonholed or limited by the job I’m in. At FNZ, if you have the skills and can make an impact, and if something interests you, go for it. It’s what I’ve always done, and it’s taken me on an incredible journey.”

Q&A

Have there always been opportunities to make a big impact at FNZ?

“After just two years learning the ropes, I was working full-time on-site with a big new financial client in Salisbury. The team worked closely with the client to design and build FNZ’s first workplace pensions platform. Being part of the team that delivered a workplace platform from scratch in less than 2 years was an amazing achievement.”

“I don’t think many businesses offer opportunities like that, but at FNZ it’s just the norm. Any big technology release, build, migration, or new client is a huge achievement. And as FNZ has grown, there have always been big milestones to celebrate and plenty of chances to make a huge impact.”

Pivoting from a Delivery role to the People Team is quite extraordinary, why did you do it?

“Three years ago, I was leading a team of 40 solution consultants across UK, Europe and South Africa. Some of whom I’d hired as graduates and supported them through their early careers with FNZ. I’d worked hard to develop an induction program, career paths, mentoring and the learning to support them. And by doing this, I realized my passion for people development."

“Moving roles has been part of my personal growth at FNZ but broadening my horizons, and creating my own opportunities, have also been a huge part of my FNZ journey.”

What’s most extraordinary about your career?

“I worked with our clients in delivery or solution consultancy positions for 15 years, and I’ve been able to bring that business insight to my current role in the People Team. Having hands-on delivery experience means you know what works and what matters to our people. I use that knowledge every day in my role and it makes me quite a unique member of our People team."

“Even though I don’t work in delivery now, I’ve never stopped looking for ways to improve the experience across delivery, technology and operations roles. It’s why I’ve created structured graduate programs, used feedback to inform the learning and career paths we use, and why the FNZ Academy has been such a success since launching in 2023."

“This year, our early careers development framework won the prestigious the Outstanding Employer and Solution Provider Development Partnership Award at the 2025 ISE Awards — a leading recognition in early careers excellence. It shows that if you’re always focused on making a real difference, your work will always matter.”

How does your approach help you make a big impact at FNZ?

“I’m open and honest when dealing with people – my team, my manager, our clients. I think it comes from my upbringing in the West Midlands, England – culturally that’s just the people we are! Not everyone has a “say it as you see it” approach, but everyone knows where they stand with me. It’s always helped me to build strong teams and deliver what is needed with others."
