But, then again, it has to be better than calling it what it actually is: the bulk construction, management and distribution of discretionary managed accounts via model portfolios. Sounds complex - and it is. But, like everything FNZ does, we’ve made it really simple to run.
Here’s how it works:
- Models are maintained online via the SMA platform by the discretionary fund manager;
- Investor accounts are maintained on existing provider wrap platforms, either powered by FNZ (eg our advised, wealth, D2C or corporate offerings) or a third party;
- These investor accounts invest all or a portion of their assets in one or more SMAs provided by the discretionary fund manager;
- At the point where money is added to or withdrawn from an SMA, the funds are physically transferred to or from the SMA platform;
- The SMA platform accesses underlying investment assets, e.g. funds, equities, fixed interest securities or cash, via the FNZ Investment platform
- Interfaces between the provider wrap platform and the SMA platform facilitate valuations, transfer of funds, SMA look-through, model customisation, tax optimisation and so on;
- For FNZ-powered platforms, these interfaces already exist and all that is needed is the completion of the appropriate legal agreements;
- For third party powered platforms, the SMA platform provides a B2B gateway service, providing a rich set of real-time and non-real time interfaces.
As with all of our technology, we provide the software, the technical support and we host the platform in our data centres. We also provide the back office administration. Everything, in fact, you need to offer this valuable additional route to market for your clients.
