Test Manager

Role and Responsibilities

To manage a Test Team testing a specific FNZ client platform through all phases of test from planning, analysis, requirements, peer reviews, unit test, early cycle  automation, system test, system integration test and non-functional test, regression testing and to assist in the co-ordination of client UAT as appropriate and report regularly, proactively and effectively on progress and escalate issues where there are deviation from the plan.

Test Management

  • Identify and meet demand for testing using a potential range of resource models (permanent, contract and professional services)
  • Management, development and evolution into a centre of excellence for the testing function
  • Implement test measures to demonstrate the value the Test Team adds to the business and be own improvements activities contributing directly to PDD value.
  • Identify new ways in which Test can work closely with development in terms of test driven development, early services testing, automated functional testing and technical testing .
  • Create project Test Strategy for specific clients hold reviews and sign offs with internal and external clients
  • Create project Test Plans and  ensure they are appropriately tailored to the demands of the project of project test phase
  • Plan the delivery of all testing solutions to agreed timescales, budget and quality using MS Project or equivalent, maintain that plan, budget resource pool
  • Identify and ensure test environments are managed for the use of the test team including the right type and volume of test data
  • Manage the effective test prep, execution, reporting and defects through the life of the project. Ensure testing and defects are prioritised and escalated where appropriate
  • Delivery of Test Report for each key quality gate to an agreed department standard
  • Permanent staff development, including identification and delivery of personal development and training plans
  • Provide a working environment that encourages staff growth and innovation
  • Ensuring departmental adherence to all FNZ standards policies, including confidentiality, health & safety and regulatory compliance where applicable.

Service Management

  • To identify any requirements for external service provision (e.g. contract resources) and negotiate the most cost effective supplier agreements that meet the service requirements of the business.
  • Regularly meet with key Test stakeholders (both within and outside IT) to review service delivery and identify areas for improvement.


Department Management

  • With the Head of Test, to resource the department adequately, ensuring appropriate skills and resources are budgeted for and available to meet demand
  • Effective budget planning and control in terms of headcount and internal projects
  • To ensure that team members’ skills and knowledge levels are aligned with the present and future requirements of the business
  • To work with team members to ensure they are cross-trained to maximise flexibility, motivation and cover for absence and to develop appropriate individuals to support succession planning within IT.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • ISEB Foundation
  • Practical experience of the application of testing disciplines
  • Management of the delivery of a large IT programme of work, preferably testing
  • Test process and automation delivery
  • Strong grasp of MS Office tools
  • Clear understanding of operating systems and application software to enable test environment specification
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems, application software and relational databases
  • Detailed experience of financial application
  • Management of up to 12 permanently assigned staff
  • 3 to 5 years of test management experience
  • Experience of operating with a peer level of test managers and above
  • Experience of the  management of multiple projects across multiple business areas
  • Financial management of a departmental budget or similar
  • Demonstrable personal resilience to cope with high volume, complex, and potentially conflicting demands on the utilisation of personal and team resources and time
  • Ability for innovation and testing development within the scope of the role
  • Travel required, therefore ability to spend some time away from home
