Assistant Finance Manager 

Location: Wellington

Our existing customers include AXA Wealth, JPMorgan Asset Management, Standard Life, Zurich Life, Close Asset Management, Friends Life, HSBC, NAB, BNZ, AMP, UBS, OnePath, Public Trust, First NZ Capital and Tower - with propositions spanning IFAs, direct customers, the workplace and discretionary wealth management. 

Role and Responsibilities

The role will be joining a growing global Finance team, reporting to our Finance Managers to assist them in managing and monitoring all financial aspects of the company. This will be an exceptionally broad role that will require strong accounting ability, combined with good communication skills and a genuine commercial/entrepreneurial ability.

Responsibilities:

Assisting the Finance Manager with - 

  • Management and statutory accounting 
  • Budgets
  • Cashflow
  • Capex
  • Corporate tax
  • Client revenue stream calculations and reporting
  • Project reporting


Completion of the following:

  • Calculate and facilitate monthly & quarterly client fee calculations
  • Manage vendor enquiries & payments
  • Prepare GST & FBT returns
  • Prepare NRWT & RWT returns
  • Review work carried out by the Finance Assistant including the entry of invoices and expense claims
  • Managing company credit cards 
  • Complete P&L and Balance sheet reconciliations and analyse for final review by Finance Manager/s
  • Maintaining all SAGE balances and being/becoming the SAGE expert user
  • Prepare the more straightforward group entities statutory accounts
  • Be the first point of contact for auditors for statutory audit process
  • First point of contact for business as usual operations queries and issues
  • Other ad hoc tasks as requested by Finance Manager/s Head of Finance

Skills and Experience

  • Eligible to sit PAS, currently completing PAS or Newly CA qualified;
  • Experience working in one of the big four accounting firms; 
  • 2 – 4 years accounting experience;
  • Experience or knowledge in Tax and IFRS desirable but not essential;
  • A good knowledge and proficiency in the Microsoft suite of products, particularly Microsoft Excel;
  • Experience in SAGE accounting package would be beneficial;
  • Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic fast-paced industry;
  • Enjoy working as part of a high performing team;
  • Passionate about creating innovative solutions for customers, which includes working with other departments; and the
  • Flexibility to work long hours when necessary, particularly around project deadlines.
