Developer, Wellington

I graduated from the University of Canterbury with a degree in Engineering Mechatronics. Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary engineering degree that encompasses the fields of mechanical, electrical and computer engineering. What fascinates me about software is its truly limitless potential. Unlike other engineering disciplines, you aren't limited by the physical constraints of the real world.

I joined FNZ in late 2009 as a graduate developer having no background in .NET or web development. What I lacked in experience, I made up for in effort and drive. FNZ gave me the opportunity to work in the field I wanted and also provided me the support and space to grow as a professional.

We value all rounders and at FNZ you won't find yourself holed up in a particular role or project; the environment is fast-paced and always changing. At FNZ you are given the opportunity to put your hand up and take charge. If you have the ability and the motivation you can move into positions that would otherwise take years to reach in other organisations.

Most recently I have been involved in the development of a very large scale online wealth platform (think online share trading). The system is built upon heavy enterprise integration and is designed for high volume use. I love the challenge and the reward of working on solutions that will be used by many users.

‘Challenging' is a cliché that companies often throw about. But for FNZ the word holds true, regarding the goals and targets that we set ourselves. But when all is done and dusted and a project is delivered we know how to celebrate. At FNZ we work hard, but when we party, we party the hardest.

FNZ is in equal parts challenging and rewarding. We don't have an overbearing company hierarchy; FNZ is an environment that encourages individuality and promotes innovation. I have the pleasure of working with an eclectic, talented and driven set of individuals in a young but constantly growing, successful company.
